Classes are 1 hour long, once a week, and go for 4 weeks. 15 minutes before and after each scheduled class is for set up and take down, please take advantage of this! Class fees are $55/person. There is a $20 NON REFUNDABLE deposit due at the time you sign up. You can pay the last $35 at the beginning of your fist class or choose to pay it all at once.
September’s project of the month is the Holiday Table Topper, if you would like to make a previous months project or something else all together, please let me know!
Basic Skills will include:
- Following patterns and cutting
- Piecing and sewing
- Creating the quilt sandwich and pinning
- “Quilting”
- Making own bias and binding your finished product!
Rotary cutters, mats, patterns, scissors, and batting will be provided for you to use during class times. I have also provided a “Must Have Quilting Supplies” list below to give yourself an idea of what you might need if you continue quilting at home. You must be able to bring a sewing machine (and thread) or have access to one – you will have homework!
You will need to bring your own fabric, also. Pick out fabric from here in Misawa or order online. Scrap fabric (just make sure its 100% cotton or nice “quilting” fabric) works great! Fabric.com has free shipping (priority to us!!!) for orders over $35 and usually have the best prices on cute fabrics. You can always check with me and combine with my order if you don’t have enough – I’m always ordering fabric.
There is only room for 2-3 people per class, so sign up quick!
If you have more questions or to sign up, please contact me.
Must Have Quilting Supplies
- Sewing Machine (duh.
) - Quilting foot for your sewing machine is a good idea, also.
- Cutting Mat. I have used the green fiskars ones that the BX usually sells for 7 years and haven’t really had any problems, but currently have a very nice LARGE Gingher mat (24″x 36″) that is wonderful.
- Rotary Cutter and refill blades – start with one 45mm. Perhaps later you will want to add a 28mm for more control over smaller pieces.
- Creative Grid Rulers – I would start with the 6.5″ x 24″ and the 12.5″ squares. Can’t go wrong with either of those! I love Creative Grid rulers because they have little grippers on the bottom that prevent the ruler from slipping, as some of the cheaper ones do. A lot. http://bighornquilts.com/cgi-bin/Store/store.cgi?cart_id=1817607.5433.s0&product=notionsrulers&productid=ncgr&keywords1=creative+grid&sales=0&lastmenu= is the direct link to Big Horn Quilts, which is the store I have bought all of mine through. They ship to APO address priority FOR FREE! Give them some love!
- Really good iron – the more steam the better – and an ironing board.
- Straw Needles and Hand Quilting thread
- Good pair of scissors. I use Gingher, I LOVE my Ginghers. They even have a sharpening service – send them $7.50 and the scissors and they’ll send them back to you in like-new condition.
- A dang seam ripper. I can guarantee you’ll use it!
